Lost Marvel Comics "The Man Who Fell to Earth" Adaptation

I've always thought that David Bowie in The Man Who Fell to Earth looked like a flesh-colored Silver Surfer, so that was sort of the genesis of this image, done for a local Alamo Drafthouse event. The instructions for the image were, "No likenesses, no official logos." So that's why I didn't bother with an exact likeness of Bowie. Also, if this were an actual Marvel comic from 1976, there would be no recognizable likenesses, anyway. If you haven't seen the film, sorry--SPOILERS. (The film is almost 40 years old so...)

Run by the Gun

I just completed this illustration for the indie comic book series Run by the Gun of the character "Jonah". It's being featured right now on the music website afropunk.com, and the article there says:

The Run By The Gun series chronicles the lives of the members of a band and the New York/Eastcoast hardcore, punk & metal scenes. Creators Rey Miranda and Zambia Greene even released music to go with the comic books! Greene says:

"It is the music of the band. It is also the soundtrack to the project. I’d personally like to call it the music of early-gentrifying north Brooklyn. It comes from being in a broiling city on the edge of the water, and motivated by the punk / hardcore scene of the late 1990's and the bands that populated that particular place and time". (...)"Our characters are mostly clueless, but they come by it honestly. They’re people, just like us, and they’re trying. Trying to understand, trying to figure it all out. They’re in the midst of setting lofty goals for their young selves while grappling with the urgencies of real life and important questions. Where are you going to go? What are you going to do? WHO DO YOU WANT TO BE?"

Jobs With Justice

 A few years ago I did a poster and tee shirt for Jobs With Justice, an organization that fights for workers' rights. To stress the heroic nature of the everyday laborer, I chose the ubiquitous "worm's eye" perspective used for superhero images. The rainbow background for the one image is an obvious nod to Superfriends. Oh, and I also designed the logo, too. (There are only so many ways you can use the Colorado flag, though.) I love the Judas Priest logo so I used a copycat font for the "tour" tee shirt. If I remember correctly, all the cities on the back of the tour shirt are the local chapters of Jobs With Justice, and their delegates held a summit in Detroit. The face of the nurse holding the baby has that awkward, "Take your stupid photo so I can give this baby back to her mom" look to it.
