BARBASTELLA

Barbastella is my homage to the 1960s and 70s characters Vampirella, Barbarella and Satana. Her origins are also steeped in the myth of Perseus and Medusa. Barbastella is Latin for "starbeard" and is a type of bat that has faint starlike whiskers on its lower lip. Right now I'm just finishing the writing stage and this is only the first of many costume designs. It's posted here in case some joker comes up with the idea that he thought of her first!

BATMAN VS. DIABOLIK

I've been thinking of drawing this image probably since 1992 when I first saw the Mario Bava film Diabolik (aka Danger: Diabolik). Diabolik, the Italian superthief, truly seems to be the other side of the coin of Batman:

Diabolik is an orphan, though he his raised by criminals rather than Alfred, Leslie Tompkins and whomever else DC has added to the list of those who trained Bats.
Diabolik also has a cave.
Diabolik named himself after an animal--a black panther that terrorized the criminal island on which he was raised.
Diabolik has a sidekick--Eva Kant, his romantic interest.
Diabolik is a master of disguise.
Diabolik has a fast car--a Jaguar XE.

When I get some time I will write a more thorough posting than this lousy thing. :)

Warren Ellis's new Whitechapel fan art project is for a David Lynch's Spider-Man poster. NINETEEN YEARS AGO such a film was my dream movie. So I drew this. Remember, this is NINETEEN YEARS OLD.

MADAME BRIJIT

Madame Brijit is a character from my upcoming comic book. She's based on a "real" voudou (voodoo) goddess, Maman Brijit. This image was created to sell at 2009's Denver Comicfest and was based on a friend, who actually dressed up in the costume to be "booth babe" and garner attention for my table.
